Best and Worst Managers by Zodiac Sign — Ranked

I Have Worked for Almost Every Sign

After fifteen years of being managed by people of every zodiac sign, I have opinions. Strong ones. Some of these people were brilliant. Some made me update my resume on a Tuesday afternoon because I could not make it to Friday.

Management is not about being nice. It is about creating conditions for other people to do their best work. Each sign has a natural approach to this, and some approaches work much better than others.

The Bottom of the List

12. Gemini. The brilliant manager who changes direction every three weeks. Geminis are inspiring in the first month. By the third month, the team has whiplash. They generate ideas constantly, follow through on none of them, and leave their teams confused about what matters. The best Gemini manager I ever had was one who forced herself to keep a single priority list for an entire quarter. It was painful for her. It was great for us.

11. Pisces. Pisces managers are kind, empathetic, and terrible at accountability. They avoid hard conversations, they let problems fester, and they protect underperformers because they cannot bear to hurt anyone’s feelings. A Pisces manager can build a wonderful culture that produces nothing.

10. Libra. Libra managers want everyone to like them, which makes them reluctant to make decisions that disappoint anyone. This means decisions that need to be made go unmade, and the team drifts. Libra needs to learn that a decision that makes some people unhappy is still better than no decision.

The Middle

9. Sagittarius. Great at inspiration, terrible at follow-through. Sagittarius managers paint a compelling vision and then assume it will execute itself. Their teams love the vision but feel abandoned when it comes time to ship.

8. Cancer. Cancer managers create loyal, cohesive teams. They genuinely care about their people. The problem is that they take things personally. When the team is criticized, Cancer feels criticized. When a project fails, Cancer takes it as a personal failure. This emotional investment can be inspiring. It can also be exhausting.

7. Aquarius. Aquarius managers are brilliant innovators who give their teams unusual autonomy. That autonomy is liberating for self-starters and terrifying for people who need structure. Aquarius managers tend to forget that not everyone is motivated by the same abstract intellectual goals that drive them.

The Top Tier

6. Aries. Aries managers are decisive and energetic. They lead from the front and work harder than anyone on their team. The downside is intensity. Aries managers can be impatient with slower team members and dismissive of input that challenges their direction. The best Aries manager I knew learned to count to five before responding to bad news. That pause made all the difference.

5. Leo. Leo managers are charismatic and generous with recognition. They make their teams feel valued and seen. The risk is that they can dominate the spotlight and unconsciously take credit for their team’s work. The best Leos learn to redirect attention to their team rather than absorbing it themselves.

4. Taurus. Taurus managers create stable, predictable environments. Their teams know what to expect, which reduces anxiety and increases productivity. The downside is stubbornness. A Taurus manager’s team can feel stuck in outdated processes because their manager refuses to change.

3. Virgo. Virgo managers set high standards and provide detailed, useful feedback. Their teams produce high-quality work because nothing slips past the Virgo eye. The risk is demoralization. Virgo managers can be so focused on what needs to improve that they forget to acknowledge what is already working. A simple “this is good” goes a long way.

2. Scorpio. Scorpio managers are strategic, intense, and deeply loyal. They see beneath the surface of every situation and navigate organizational politics better than any other sign. Their teams tend to be high-performing and tightly bonded. The downside is intimidation. People hesitate to bring bad news to a Scorpio manager. The best Scorpios learn to make themselves approachable without losing their edge.

1. Capricorn. Capricorn is the best natural manager in the zodiac. They are patient, fair, and consistent. They set clear expectations, provide the resources their teams need, and remove obstacles without drama. Capricorn managers think in decades, not quarters, so they invest in their people’s long-term growth rather than squeezing short-term output. The only weakness is that Capricorn can be joyless. The best Capricorn managers learn to balance their seriousness with genuine warmth.

What This Means for You

If you are a manager, this ranking is not about changing who you are. It is about identifying the one or two blind spots that are holding your team back. The Gemini who needs to commit to a single priority. The Libra who needs to make an unpopular decision. The Capricorn who needs to smile more often. Those small adjustments matter more than most management training programs.
